GOD’S LOVE IS EVER WITH US

We do not know what the future holds as we consider the course of the war in Iraq and the fluctuation of the economy in our own country. The outcome of the presidential election later this year may bring great changes. But one thing will never change: the love of God.

Even the love of family and friends will waver at times, but God’s love surrounds us and brings us through every trial. Do you feel lonely for former friends or anxious about the future? Just as the sun rises every day, whether we can see it or not through the clouds, the love of God still shines upon us.

God loved us even before we knew Him. He guided the events in our lives to bring us to the place where we heard about His salvation.

When we faltered along the way and grew discouraged, God still loved us. He lovingly drew us back into close fellowship with Himself.

When we stumbled and fell into sin, He was there holding out His hands in forgiveness even before we asked for it. He disciplined us only to wake us up to our need.

The depth of God’s love cannot be fully understood. Why should He care about us, frail creatures that we are? Many of us rarely think of Him or go out of our way to serve Him. We are full of excuses for our failures.

The temptations of the world fascinate us and draw us down into sin. We look for happiness in the pleasures of the flesh when we could have lasting joy by simple obedience to God’s loving commands.

When we meditate on God’s goodness and grace, He lifts us to heights of joy in spiritual realms. The heights and depths of God’s love can be experienced but not fully described.

What is the breadth and length of His love? It is so broad that it reaches out to every creature on earth, not only sinful people but also to the animals and birds that seek daily food. He cares about every descendant of Adam and Eve, even the millions who reject Him and deny His existence.

God’s love goes on forever. For all eternity His love will care for everyone who loves Him and trusts Him. When ten thousand years have passed in heaven, we will still be discovering the greatness of His love and compassion.

As Christ dwells in our hearts by faith we become rooted and grounded in love. Only then can we begin to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth, length, depth, and height of the love of Christ, which actually passes human knowledge.

We must do more than rejoice in God’s unfailing love. We need to be filled with His love so that we can show it in practical ways to people around us.

Ephesians 3:17-19 shows us that what Paul prayed for can become a reality in our lives. "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God."

FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

The gifts of the Spirit that I want the most
Are love, joy, and peace.
Not the qualities I normally have,
But what comes through a spiritual release.

Freedom from the bonds of my personality,
Energy from the Spirit above,
I want to show others that God really cares.
Lord, give me your joy and love.

Then I will have peace that I have served you well,
And your joy within will ring love’s golden bell.
