MAGNIFY THE LORD

As I face replacement of my right hip joint on March 13, I have been asking the Lord for some promises to claim. After much prayer it seemed that God wanted me to claim the attitude that David had in Psalm 34, especially verses 1 through 6. This is not a promise of healing, but rather a change in my attitude. Instead of claiming healing, God wants me to start praising Him by faith, believing that He will take care of me.

So this is my attitude today as I face surgery. "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof and be glad." I am praising God that He will give me good function of my hip after surgery.

This has helped me to have a positive attitude toward the future. I feel more confident and energetic. But today I realized that these verses are not only about helping me. As I repeat these verses to myself, I am singing to God, glorifying him. Surely this is giving him pleasure!

So I say to you all, "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together." Let’s give God joy by praising him before we receive the answer to our prayers. Whatever your need is, praise God today and tell him you are trusting him fully. That will delight him, and it will give you joy in your heart also.

Since I began focusing on these verses last week, I can now say with David, "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears (v. 4)." How wonderful it is to be delivered from your fears! I love to paraphrase verse 6 also: "This poor woman cried, and the Lord heard me and saved me out of all my troubles."

If you are overwhelmed by troubles and by fear of the future, start praising the Lord right now. He will respond by increasing your faith and your joy. Then verse 5 will be true. "They looked unto him (unto Jesus), and were lightened (cheerful, radiant): and their faces were not ashamed."

God can make us a cheerful, joyful testimony for him even in the midst of our troubles. Then people will see that we are different, that we have a living Savior who holds our hand as we pass through the trials of this life.

MAGNIFY THE LORD

Oh, bless the Lord at all times.
Continually praise His Name.
Boast that God is always faithful,
and your life won’t be the same.

Come, magnify the Lord with me.
Let us exalt His Name together.
Seek the Lord and He will hear you.
He will show us how to help one another.

Focus on Jesus, and you will be radiant.
Love for others will shine from your face.
You won’t be ashamed, discouraged, or fearful.
You will be victorious in running life’s race.
