CHANGING OUR WORLD

Do you long to see God intervene in the affairs of nations today? God can put down people who exalt evil. He can end wars and bring revival to His church. What is our part in all this? Can we do anything to help bring periods of righteousness and peace to our troubled world?

We know that Satan will continue to promote evil and stir up discord in the world until the end times when the antichrist will unite the world in its rebellion against God. But God can bring times of peace and refreshing to His church even in these evil days.

Our part is to remember, believe, and get involved. First we need to remember what God has done in the past. The Old Testament gives us the exciting history of how God reached down at various times to enable special leaders to deliver Israel when the nation had wandered into deep sin. Even in the early history of the United States one can see how God gave us godly leaders and delivered our fledgling nation from extreme peril.

God had plans for America, and even Satan could not prevent us from becoming a strong nation and a force for righteousness in the world. Today we are surrounded by secularism, humanism, globalism, and terrorism. Will God intervene again and keep us from going off the right path?

We must know God’s Word and remember what He has done, but we also need to believe the promises of God and know what He can do. The wonderful promises of spiritual blessing and renewal that we find in Isaiah and other books of the Bible should give us much hope.

God will pour living waters upon the dry ground, on hearts that thirst for Him (Isaiah 44:3). He will lead the blind by the way we should go (42:16). Our children shall be taught of the Lord (54:13). No weapon that is formed against us shall prosper, in the final event (54:17). These promises were given to God’s chosen people Israel, but as Christians we can apply them to our lives as well.

Finally, we must get involved in what God is doing. This will include prayer, service, and even suffering for the name of Jesus. Pray that God’s will shall be done on earth even as it is in heaven. Pray for our church leaders and our national leaders. Serve faithfully in church and minister to people who are in need. Serve however God leads you.

Wonderful excitement flooded Ezra as he traveled to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple after the captivity in Babylonia. Later, Nehemiah took people with him to rebuild the walls of the city. These men saw God intervening in history at a time when all seemed dark around them. But they also faced difficulties and personal sacrifice.

We also must be willing to suffer. God’s work often grows in proportion to those who suffer in order to make Him known. Death to self by yielding up our comfortable lives will show the world that we mean business and have something of eternal value to share. This is the hardest part, but perhaps this is what God will use most to change our world.
